The fusion of advertising, smart technology & Internet culture integrates into our lives more and more every day. Saturated through pop culture and media to the point of normalisation, people don’t wonder about the implications. Distraction is the currency. About the exhibit
Time spent on social media can have a positive effect on your psychological well-being.
But this is only the case when platforms are used and incentivised to facilitate genuine social interactions, such as engaging with close friends, family and art.
Using social media platforms in ways that do not facilitate genuinely social interactions actively harm our wellness. So, following influencers or brands on apps like Instagram or consuming news on Twitter won’t make us any happier, unlike exploration of boundary breaking creativity.
This exhibit explores the dynamics of the modern day experience. We have all heard the sales pitch for this supposed free participation, but what are the real risks and costs?
